Help Shape the Future of Public Art in Johnstown! - CALL FOR ARTIST SELECTION PANEL MEMBERS

The City of Johnstown is excited to announce the formation of an Artist Selection Panel to review and select proposals for our new public art initiative, which will complement the RAISE infrastructure project. This is your chance to play a key role in enhancing our community through inspiring art in public spaces!

Vision for Public Art

We’re dedicated to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and vibrant community. Our public art will celebrate diversity, promote social justice, and build connections among all residents. Through creative expression, we aim to address historical inequities and inspire a city where everyone feels valued and hopeful.

Your Role

As a panel member, you will:

Review artist submissions and attend meetings.

Contribute to choosing proposals that reflect our artistic vision and community goals.

Play a crucial role in shaping public art that resonates with Johnstown’s spirit.

Our mission is to create meaningful connections—both literal and metaphorical—across generations and among residents. Thanks to the RAISE program, we are working toward a resilient and flourishing Johnstown.

Criteria for Panel Selection

We are looking for individuals who:

Understand and value artistic excellence in public art.

Align with our goals of inclusivity, equity, and community engagement.

Have relevant experience in public art or related fields.

Are committed to addressing historical and cultural contexts through art.

Inclusivity and Representation

We aim to assemble a diverse panel representing various backgrounds and perspectives to ensure our selection process reflects the rich diversity of Johnstown.

Join the Vision 2025

We have studied, talked, listened, and asked what we as a community can do to move Johnstown forward. Together, we have created Vision 2025. You are invited to review its findings, learn of next steps and how our community can take them together.

Vision 2025 is a community-based effort that has created a vision around bettering our community through a strategic focus around three core areas: a vibrant local economy, life-sustaining landscapes, and a strong sense of community, all guided by an inclusive good governance model.

Visioning is the first step in seeing where to go and deciding how to get there. It’s working in large places such as Pittsburgh and in smaller Pennsylvania communities such as Media. Now is the time for Johnstown.

The project team gathered information and input from a number of sources, including a community priority survey conducted through the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat in September of 2014, community planning documents, interviews with over two dozen community leaders and facilitated listening sessions with over 100 additional community members.
