DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn Visits Johnstown: A Tour of Key Projects and Future Initiatives

In August of 2024, Johnstown had the privilege of hosting Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn for a noteworthy tour of key local projects. This visit provided an opportunity to showcase two significant initiatives: the ACRP’s Splash Park in Cambria City and the proposed River Wall Project, both of which reflect DCNR’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement.

The tour began at the ACRP’s Splash Park, a vibrant community asset funded with support from DCNR. Located in Cambria City, the park has quickly become a favorite destination for residents and visitors alike, offering a fun and interactive space for families. Secretary Dunn took the time to explore the park’s water play features and design elements.

Following the visit to the Splash Park, Secretary Dunn, along with Mayor Frank Janakovic, Johnstown Redevelopment Authority (JRA) Director, members of the Army Corps of Engineers, and community members, examined the proposed River Wall Project.

During her visit, Secretary Dunn emphasized the many opportunities available in Johnstown for advancing environmental and recreational initiatives. She noted the city’s proactive approach in leveraging DCNR funding to support projects that enhance community well-being and environmental sustainability.

The tour underscored the role of public spaces in fostering a deeper connection between people and their natural surroundings. By supporting initiatives like the Splash Park and the River Wall Project, DCNR and local leaders are working together to create environments that are both enjoyable and resilient.

As Johnstown continues to move forward with important projects, the collaboration between state agencies, local officials, and community members will be vital in achieving successful outcomes. The city’s focus on sustainable development and environmental engagement reflects a forward-thinking approach that benefits both residents and the broader community.
